There’s a new rumor going around suggesting that Rockstar Games might be preparing a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster or re-release—possibly even in 2025.According to Rockstar Intel, a trusted figure in the GTA community known as Tez2 (who’s gotten things right in the past) has hinted at the possibility. He claims, via internal sources, that a GTA 4 remaster could be launching sometime this year. Now, of course—this is just a rumor. I always say take it with a grain of salt. But it’s exciting to think about.
Personally, I would love to see GTA IV brought back, especially with proper remastering. On PC, the experience is decent thanks to modders, but on console, it’s pretty rough and not very accessible. Giving people a chance to easily experience this game again would be huge—especially for younger players who jumped into the series with GTA V and never played GTA IV.
To me, GTA IV feels like the dark horse of the franchise. It captured the feel of New York City at a specific point in time like no other game. As someone from the NYC area, I still think it nailed the atmosphere and mood perfectly.
Why Now?
Some speculate that with Grand Theft Auto VI delayed to 2026, Rockstar might be looking to fill the gap with something significant. A GTA IV remaster would certainly get people excited.
But again—we don’t know if it’s real. I’m hopeful, but also cautious. If they do it, I just hope it gets the care and polish it deserves. We all remember the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition—a release that fell flat due to its undercooked launch. We definitely don’t want a repeat of that.
What do you think?
Could a GTA 4 Remaster be real? Would you play it again in 2025?
